Abstract: Treatment of Ni-EDTA in industrial nickel plating effluents was investigated by integrated application of Fenton and ozone-based oxidation processes. Determination of integrated sequence found that Fenton oxidation presented higher apparent kinetic rate constant of Ni-EDTA oxidation and capacity for contamination load than ozone-based oxidation process, the latter, however, was favorable to guarantee the further mineralization of organic substances, especially at a low concentration. Serial-connection mode of two oxidation processes was appraised, Fenton effluent after treated by hydroxide precipitation and filtration negatively affected the overall performance of the sequential system, as evidenced by the removal efficiencies of Ni2+ and TOC dropping from 99.8% to 98.7%, and from 74.8% to 66.6%, respectively. As a comparison, O-3/Fe2+ oxidation process was proved to be more effective than other processes (e.g. O-3-Fe2+, O-3/H2O2/Fe2+, O-3/H2O2-Fe2+), and the final effluent Ni2+ concentration could satisfied the discharge standard (<0 .1 mg l-1, china) under the optimal conditions (h2o2 dosage of 1.0 ml l-1, fe2+:h2o2 mole ratio of 1.46, and reaction time of 10 min for fenton reaction, initial influent ph of 3.0, o-3 dosage of 252 mg l-1, fe2+ of 150 mg l-1, and reaction time of 30 min for o-3/fe2+ oxidation). furthermore, pilot-scale test was carried out to study the practical treatability towards the real nickel plating effluent, revealing the effective removal of some other co-existence contaminations. and fenton reaction has contributed most, with the percentage ranging from 72.41% to 93.76%. the economic cost advantage made it a promising alternative to the continuous fenton oxidation. Abstract: Graphene oxide (GO) as an important derivative of graphene is potential toxic to cells and animals. In this study, MgAl-mixed metal oxide (MgAl-MMO) prepared by one-step calcination of MgAl-layered double hydroxide (MgAl-LDH) at 500 degrees C was employed to remove GO from aqueous solution. The effect of contact time, sorbent dosage, initial GO solution pH and co-existing anions on the removal capacity of MgAl-MMO composite was investigated in detail. The results showed that the sorbent dosage and the initial solution pH had significant effect on the adsorption process. MgAl-LDH composite exhibited ultrahigh GO adsorption capacity (984.2 mg/g at pH = 2) with low dosage (25 mg/L) and fast GO-eliminating rate (within 5 h). MgAl-MMO composite could be recycled by simply calcining the rehydrated production and reused for 5 times without significant loss of the removal capacity. This adsorption process could be well fitted by the pseudo-second-order model. The mechanism study further showed that the excellent removal performance of MgAl-MMO composite came from the memory effect of calcined LDH and pH-induced aggregation of GO.

Abstract: This paper is concerned with the issue of robust stability for quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) with leakage, discrete and distributed delays by employing a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Based on the homeomorphic mapping theorem, the quaternion matrix theorem and the Lyapunov theorem, some criteria are developed in the form of real-valued LMIs for guaranteeing the existence, uniqueness, and global robust stability of the equilibrium point of the delayed QVNNs. Two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Abstract: We consider the following singularly perturbed problem: -epsilon(N) Delta(N)u + V(x)vertical bar u vertical bar(N-2)u - f(u), u(x) > 0 in R-N, where N >= 2 and Delta(N)u is the N-Laplacian operator. In this paper, we construct a solution u(epsilon) which concentrates around any given isolated positive local minimum component of V, as epsilon -> 0, in the Trudinger-Moser type of subcritical or critical case. In the subcritical case, we only impose on f the Berestycki and Lions conditions. In the critical case, a global condition on the nonlinearity f is imposed. However, any monotonicity of f (t)/t(N-1) or Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type conditions are not required.

Abstract: An experimental study was conducted to analyze the appearance, mass change, stress-strain relationship and unconfined compressive strength on the dredged sludge solidified with reactive MgO, MgO-fly ash and cement through full water immersion and unconfined compressive strength tests by introducing a low carbon, green and environmental-friendly binder. The obtained test results revealed the water stability performance of reactive MgO-solidified sludge. The water stability performance of reactive MgO-solidified sludge increases with MgO amount and curing time, and is evidently superior to non-solidified sludge. The addition of fly ash can greatly improve the compressive strength and water stability of reactive MgO-solidified sludge. The prolongation of water immersion duration weakens unconfined compressive strength of solidified sludge, while an increase in MgO mass fraction reduces its failure strain. The water stability of reactive MgO plus fly ash-solidified sludge is better than reactive MgO, which outperforms traditional at binder-cement on this point. The microstructural analysis indicates that Mg(OH)2and M-S-H are the most important materials why the water stability of reactive MgO-and MgO plus fly ash-solidified sludge is greatly enhanced. ? 2018, Zhejiang University Press. Abstract: The aerodynamic characteristics of a train on a bridge under crosswinds are studied by using a wind tunnel. The tests performed measure the aerodynamic forces associated with the model train running inside a truss bridge for different incoming wind velocities, wind angles, and train speeds. For a deeper analysis of the shielding effect of the truss bridge on the train body under crosswinds, a dynamic mesh method is adopted to establish a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics model. Then the pressure distribution on the surface of the train was analyzed. The results show that the aerodynamic coefficients of the train measured with an equivalent static train model are different to those measured with the dynamic train model. Due to the shielding effect of the truss bridge, the relationships between the aerodynamic coefficients and the yaw angle change with different incoming wind velocities and wind angles. The impact of the train speed on the aerodynamic characteristics is mainly related to changes in the train-induced wind. It leads to the relationship curves between the aerodynamic coefficients and the yaw angle obtained by adjusting the train speed are very different to those by changing the incoming wind velocity and wind angle. ? 2018 Elsevier Ltd

Abstract: This paper develops a three-step customer clustering based approach to solve two-echelon location routing problems with time windows. A bi-objective model minimizing costs and maximizing customer satisfaction is formulated along with an innovative measurement function to rank optimal solutions. The proposed methodology is a knowledge-based approach which considers customers locations and purchase behaviors, discovers similar characteristics among them through clustering, and applies exponential smoothing method to forecast periodic customers demands. We introduce a Modified Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (M-NSGA-II) to simultaneously locate logistics facilities, allocate customers, and optimize the vehicle routing network. Different from many existing version of NSGA-II, our algorithm applies partial-mapped crossover as genetic operator, instead of simulated binary crossover, in order to properly handle chromosomes. The initial population is generated through a nodes’ scanning algorithm which eliminates sub-tours. Finally, to demonstrate the applicability of our mathematical model and approach, we conduct two empirical studies on generated benchmarks and the distribution network of a company in Chongqing city, China. Further comparative analyses with multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) and multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm indicate that M-NSGA-II performs better in terms of solution quality and computation time. Results also support that: (1) the formation of clusters containing highly similar customers improves service reliability, and favors a productive customer relationship management; (2) considering product preference contributes to maximizing customer satisfaction degree and the effective control of inventories at each distribution center; (3) clustering, instead of helping to improve services, proves detrimental when too many groups are formed. Thus, decision makers need to conduct series of simulations to observe appropriate clustering scenarios. ? 2018 Elsevier Ltd

Abstract: In view of the restricted performance in terms of accuracy, anti-disturbance, and robustness of the current road lane recognition algorithm for Lane Departure Warning System, tensor voting–based road lane recognition algorithm with road lane geometric constraints is presented in this paper. It extracts road lane information from random images using voting decayed function optimized from geometric constraints of road lanes. The entire framework of the algorithm consists of pre-processing, vote-processing, and post-processing. First, white points which represent the potential road lanes are selected and remaining points are discarded for reducing noise and computation burden in binary image. Next, the most likely connection between voters and receivers can be characterized as decayed function. Road lane geometric constraints determined by calibration results of the camera are utilized to optimize decayed function in tensor voting in order to emphasize road lane points in vote-processing. At last, these points are clustered and fitted into road lanes in post processing. The experimental results indicate that accuracy of this method is superior in terms of traditional road lane extraction in complicated traffic condition. ? 2018, IMechE 2018.

Abstract: Aiming at the difficulty of extracting information for incipient fault symptoms from rolling bearings with strong background noise, an improved incipient fault detection method based on modified recursive least squares adaptive equalization (RLS) and a local mean decomposition algorithm (LMD) is proposed. First, an efficient RLS de-noising model is established by introducing a momentum factor together with a forgotten factor to de-noise the incipient fault signal of the bearings. Then, the local mean decomposition algorithm (LMD) is used to decompose the pre-processed signal to obtain an effective PF component, and complete the envelope demodulation to extract information from the incipient fault. Based on the above algorithm, an improved RLS and LMD identifying algorithm for incipient faults can thus be achieved. Finally, some actual fault signals of a large unit rolling bearing are used to simulate and verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The experimental comparison indicated that our algorithm can not only improve the de-noising effect but also correctly extract the features of the incipient fault and identify them with good engineering operability and expansibility. Abstract: Solubilities of three hydroxy dibasic (adipic, suberic, and sebacic) acids in alkanolamine solutions were measured within the 30-90. temperature range. It is found that solubility of these acids sharply grows with temperature and concentration of alkanolamine solvent. In addition, the study substantiates the adjustment of pH to optimize the CO2 absorption and desorption processes. The precipitation of added acids from alkanolamine solvents by cooling is found to be quite problematic, which makes the recovery of residual acids from lean alkanolamine solvents non-feasible and requires the application of alternative methods.
